2022 BIOGRAPHY

Debut single ‘Sorrow’ premiered on Metaltalk.net to great acclaim: hailed and shared by members of Rob Zombie, rotated on Scuzz TV and featured in Bass Guitar Magazine. ‘Ghost in the Glass’ followed, winning public praise from The Mission and Therapy? and garnering over 150,000 Spotify plays.

Diamond Black soon signed a worldwide deal with the legendary Cargo/Livewire Records, releasing their searing, seductive single ‘The Scarlet’, which received public praise from The Birthday Massacre and Lord of the Lost, with the sensational video clip winning first place in both the New York Cinematography Awards and Paris International Music Awards.

This spiral of success caught the attention of United Talent Agency, signing Diamond Black to their roster, alongside such luminaries as Alterbridge, Alice Cooper, Katatonia, Killing Joke and Bullet for My Valentine.

The band have toured the UK as main support to CELLAR DARLING, headlined their own sell-out London shows and captivated a sold-out crowd at 69 Eyes’ 30th anniversary London show.

Founded by Christo (The Sisters of Mercy, PIG, Nathan Gray) and original virtuoso vocalist Jaakko Turunen, Diamond Black was completed by gifted multi-instrumentalist and graphic guru Adam Hart and hugely-acclaimed drummer Vincent Velazco (Pendragon, Gus G), capturing the hearts and imaginations of alternative music fans worldwide. After a highly successful first tenure, Turunen and the band amicably parted company, with Christo now stepping into the lead role, supported by Hart’s inimitable vocal talents and with Velazco prevailing as the percussive powerhouse.

Diamond Black’s devastating debut album, DARK ANTHEMS is due for release in 2023. Ten powerful cuts of introspection, intrigue and isolation, produced by chart-topping Finnish visionary Jaani Peuhu (Swallow the Sun, The Rasmus) and featuring guest appearances from The 69 Eyes and Lord of the Lost.

The band has already amassed a dedicated global fanbase, with each single release selling out within a matter of hours and current Spotify plays clocking in at an impressive 350,000 – for just 4 tracks.

“… had the crowd in the palms of their hands from the first track: the soon-to-be-released ‘Ghost in the Glass’.”
– JORDAN QUINN, BIRMINGHAM LIVE

“…melodically tasty tunes that fuse darkly gothic atmospheres with an engaging rock/metal impetus… Fine, emotionally-charged vocals… a slew of engaging riffs and leads… won’t be too long before this bunch… are filling clubs on their own terms.”
– MARK HOLMES, METAL DISCOVERY

“… soaring vocal range… percussive rhythm and hooky riffs… begs the question “should this band not be headlining their own tour?”
– CHRIS STONES, DOWN THE FRONT MEDIA

Viktor Pedersen

AND THE WINNER IS...

Announcing the winner of our “If You Kill My Demons” art competition: Viktor Pedersen!

Viktor Pedersen

Viktor work will be a key focus in the lyric video for our next single, “If You Kill My Demons”. We felt this masterfully rendered piece successfully conveyed themes of death, vulnerability, isolation, addiction and fragmenting identity, all of which are central to the song. We like the ambiguity of gender, age, race, culture, sexuality and even temporal placement, all of which make this art universally effective. The subtle window frame in the background is such a tasteful and evocative way of both creating a sense of space and of metaphorical entrapment. What appear to be bejewelled eyes adds another layer of intrigue, and the DB logo on the mirror is a nice touch. Congratulations, victorious Viktor!
We’re truly humbled by how much time, thought and heart you all put into your artwork, so we have chosen a number of our other favourites in the gallery below. Seeing how you interpreted the words and music was fascinating and it was life-affirming to see our passion inspiring your passion.

BE A PART OF DIAMOND BLACK HISTORY!

BE A PART OF DIAMOND BLACK HISTORY!

You guys send us so much amazing fan art, so we’re going to showcase the best talent in our next release!
If You Kill My Demons will be our 4th single and we want to feature YOUR artwork for the video!

Here’s how you can be part of this:

  • Draw/design an image that conveys what the lyrics and music of the song mean to YOU. You can check out the lyrics and a sample of the song below.
  • Send your files to demons@diamondblackofficial.com
  • If you’re chosen, we’ll mail you directly and then post the results on our socials! You work will then be featured in the official video!

Tip: avoid being too literal in your work. The chosen art will indicate that the artist has really spent time listening to the music and reading the words. We want work that both fits the song’s vibe AND conveys your feelings and imagination in a striking and unique way.

Closing Date - May 17 2020

Deadlight incoming,
Breathe in the monochrome.
Straight lines that mean nothing,
But I dream of the unknown.

‘Cause I can’t face the day
When all the silver starts to fade to grey.
Oh, and I know that…

If you kill my demons
I might die, too.
Kill my demons and kill the truth.

Headlights oncoming,
Cry out, illuminate.
White lines that shine nothing,
But the hours give-way.

And I can’t face the day
When all the silver starts to fade to grey.
Oh, and I know that…

If you kill my demons
I might die, too
Kill my demons and kill the truth.

‘The Scarlet’ is out TODAY

‘The Scarlet’ is out TODAY, and you can see the stunning new video here! It’s produced by Before Dawn Productions, the masterminds behind our debut video ‘Sorrow’, was edited by Chris Young  and stars Katrina Lilwall and Ryan Davies-Hall. We love the results and are sure you will, too!

Sorrow

The desperation and lies,
A slowly fading disguise,
And words are so contrived.
Drawn out in tragic filigree
Learning the syntax of grief,
Forgot what daylight used to mean.

I can’t reach the life before.

Sorrow,
My darkest star; the one I follow:
Sorrow.

All those meanings set in stone
You thought couldn’t erode,
Worn-out years ago.
This jagged language of the crash,
Voices shatter like glass,
Just fragments of the past.

I can’t reach the life before.

Sorrow,
My darkest star; the one I follow:
Sorrow,
Dead constellation of tomorrow,
Sorrow.

The Scarlet

Like an intake of breath,
She is quietly drawn,
To the place of regret,
And surrenders it all.

Is this true? Is it right?
Were you waiting, waiting for this moment?
Is this you? Is it life?
Are you fading, fading in this moment?

So have you ever been this low before?
Have you ever been this close to the truth?
(Scarlet, scarlet, scarlet)
Have you ever been this close to the truth?

Like a work of art,
She is tenderly drawn,
To the chambers of your heart,
‘Til the scarlet dawn.

It’s true – all my life.

Have you ever been… ?
Never been this close to the truth.
